The legendary pastor and inspirational figure to millions of people, Billy Graham, has tragically passed away today. The evangelist was 99 years old.
Graham’s career of preaching spanned 60-years. He is estimated to have reached hundreds of millions of people during that time.
Graham was born in 1918, and raised on his family’s dairy farm in Charlotte, North Carolina, Billy Graham became a committed Christian at the age of 16 after he heard a preacher that inspired him.
At age 21, Graham was ordained as a minister.
Recently, Graham said: “I know that soon my life will be over. I thank God for it, and for all He has given me in this life. But I look forward to Heaven.”
Billy Graham had a close relationship with US presidents from Harry Truman, through Richard Nixon to Barack Obama.
He had this to say about his life:
“If I had to do it over again, I would also avoid any semblance of involvement in partisan politics.
“An evangelist is called to do one thing, and one thing only: to proclaim the Gospel.”
His son, fellow pastor Franklin Graham, tweeted this today: My father
@BillyGraham was once asked, “Where is Heaven?” He said, “Heaven is where Jesus is and I am going to Him soon!” This morning, he departed this world into eternal life in Heaven, prepared by the Lord Jesus Christ—the Savior of the world—whom he proclaimed for 80 years.”
Did you love Billy Graham? Are you saddened by his loss? Please pray for his family at this time.
